Yasmine Melendez Cooks Soup for GJCC Lunch Culinary Arts student Yasmine Melendez was able to gain some professional experience in the Glenmont Job Corps Center kitchen under the guidance of Chef Andy Riggs. Chef Riggs had Ms. Melendez prepare a soup for one of our lunches this week. Yasmine’s soup was fashioned after a recipe her mom often made, a vegetable soup made with Romaine lettuce, celery, carrots and onion in a chicken-based broth. Yasmine added a touch of seasoning to make it a perfect. Yasmine said, “My mom often had us use lettuce in our soups.”
Anyone who was lucky enough to have a bowl will tell you it was perfect for a cold winter day! Thank you to Chef Riggs for giving Yasmine this great opportunity and thanks to Yasmine for making her delicious soup.
