Albany Police Visit Glenmont Reading Class 1and Academic Wing

On Thursday, July 28th 2016, Officer George Brice and Officer Johnson from Albany Police Department were guest speak-ers in Reading 1 class. Many students from other classrooms in the academic wing joined for the presentation. The officers described their day-to-day routine, employment requirements, employability skills required, how to apply for the job, ways in which reading and writing are used. They also discussed recent issues and how the media can portray a false sense of reality. They talked about situations from a police officer’s perspective and how certain negative outcomes can result in the heat of the moment when adrenalin is pumping in a life or death situation. There seemed to be a sense of more trust once students put themselves in the place of a police officer in these situations.
The students stayed throughout the duration of the 2:00 break to speak to the officers individually as well as after the completion of 7th block. The officers commented on how the students were very receptive and that they’d love to come back again to speak to future students. Officer Brice and Officer Johnson left their contact information for students to contact them upon completion of the program for information on Labor Union opportunities or for any other reason they feel they can be of assistance.
