Work Based Learning Site Hires Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Student!

Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Culinary Arts student Cameron Douglas-Townsend recently became the first Culinary Arts students to get hired by the St. Mary’s Heath Care Nutrition Services Department.

While the St. Mary’s Health Care Nutrition Services Department has been an excellent Work Based Learning site for Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Culinary Arts students from many years, they had refrained from hiring Job Corps students due to their lack of work experience.

Cameron, however, broke through and got the job.

Serving as a Work Based Learning student at St. Mary’s during the late spring of 2010, Cameron impressed everyone as he interned within the Nutrition Services Department.  His hard work, dedication to detail, compassion to help others, and commitment to food service shined.

After recently completing the Culinary Arts trade at the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center and working part-time in the Center’s cafeteria to gain additional experience, Cameron applied for a position with the Nutrition Services Department and got the job.

Now in his first days of orientation for St. Mary’s Hospital, Cameron is looking forward to starting his career in culinary and providing for his family.
