Local Construction Company Hires 3 Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Graduates!

After successfully completing the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center program, two Facility Maintenance and a Carpentry student were recently offered full-time positions with local company, Ebels Construction.

The students were hired by Ebels Construction to help perform trim and frame work at the Madison Square Apartments located about 3 blocks from the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center on Hall Street.  Due to Michigan’s Prevailing Wage law, each graduate is being paid roughly $17.87/hour and is working 40/ week with some opportunities for overtime pay.

Michigan’s Prevailing Wage law covers construction workers employed on state financed or sponsored construction projects. Under this act the Wage and Hour Division establishes wage and fringe benefit rates to be paid to construction workers on state projects.  The project at Madison Square Apartments was sponsored and financed by the State of Michigan.

Bret Ebels, Owner of Ebels Construction is happy with the work ethic of the recently hired graduates and stated that the students were “progressing well and willing to learn.”  He told the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center that he looked forward to hiring additional graduates in the future.
