“My name is Katie Howard. I am 19 years old and from Toledo, Ohio. Before coming to the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center, I was skipping school and I wasn’t going to graduate on time. I wanted a better future for myself. A friend told me about Job Corps and I signed up right away.
When I arrived on center it was a whole new experience in an entirely new environment. I was really scared but I knew that this was the best for me and my future.
I have been at the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center now for a year and three months. I have completed the Culinary Arts Trade and served as Room Captain, New Student Mentor, Trade Ambassador and a Gold Card holder. I also received the Center Director and Culinary Arts Student of the Month awards. I am currently working towards completing my High School Diploma and plan on going to college after I complete the program.
I often tell new students to believe in themselves, and to never give up. Job Corps has helped me to be a stronger and more independent person, a positive leader, and has improved my overall communication skills. I am thankful for this opportunity and am looking forward to a more successful future because of Job Corps.”
