Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Carpentry student, Johathon Bradley, was nominated by Center staff to receive the 2011 Congressional Medal of Merit Award from United States Congressman Justin Amash. The medal is granted to students in the Congressman’s district who exhibit academic excellence, peer respect, community service and school citizenship.
Since first enrolling into the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center last fall, Johathan has exemplified the traits of a Congressional Medal of Merit Award nominee. He quickly earned his GED, has made significant progress in the Carpentry trade and has been a role model to his peers. Johathan is often found tutoring other students both during the training day and at night school, assisting staff with various projects around the Center and volunteering weekly at a local community organization. As a true testament of citizenship, Johathan is extremely respectful, positive, upbeat, encouraging and humble.
Johathon was awarded the medal by Congressman Amash during a special ceremony at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 7th. In total, 44 area high schools submitted nominations for the award.
Johathon will graduate from the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center later this summer and plans to enroll into the United States Army and serve as a Fire Support Specialist. “I am honored to accept this award” states Johathon, “it was exciting to meet Congressman Amash and I am thankful that Job Corps has helped me to reach my goals.”
