In honor of Safety Awareness Month, the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center, in partnership with the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital, hosted a Bike Helmet Safety Day on Wednesday, June 8th.  Local Grand Rapids families were invited to bring their children to the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center between 1:00-4:00 to receive a free bike helmet and fitting. In addition to the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Student Government Association and Security students helping with the event set-up, they were trained on how to fit children with bike helmets and also spoke to parents on how to ensure that their children safely wear bike helmets.  Also turning out for the event was the local Grand Rapids Griffins Hockey team mascot, who stopped by to greet the children in attendance.  In the end, 65 community children were fitted with free bike helmets, proving to be a very successful event!
