Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Celebrates Make a Difference Week!

In honor of Make A Difference Day, the students and staff at the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center participated in Make A Difference Week!  To maximize students and staff participation, and have the greater affect on the community, a whole week is dedicated to giving back to the local community.

During the week of October 18th, more than 150 students and 20 staff members volunteered with 12 different local organizations to positively impact the local Grand Rapids community.  Students participated in community clean-up projects, tutored and mentored to local school-age children, assisted with maintenance and facility repairs at a local church and community organizations, sorted food and clothing at local pantries, prepared meals for the homeless, volunteered at a fundraising event for the Opera Grand Rapids, and helped the Salvation Army with their grand opening gala event for the newest Ray and Joan Kroc Community Corps Center.

The hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, and spirit of the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps students resulted in two new Work Based Learning sites and seven new community partners who are all interested in working with our students and staff in the future!
