Gary Job Corps Smart Meter Solar Technology
Gary Job Corps is taking a leap towards Green technology by installing a Solar Array to power the classroom in the Smart Metering Advanced Trade. The Ribbon Cutting was performed with representatives from the San Marcos Electric, Mayor, students, and Gary Job Corps Management.  Said San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero, “Technology for tomorrow is being accomplished today by Gary Smart Meter Students, the needs for future power sources will always be the technology of the future”.  Switching to solar power is one ways to limit the impact it has on the environment. By using photovoltaic cells, we have taken advantage of the free energy provided by the sun without producing carbon emissions or running up the electricity bill. The solar array contains eight modules that are capable of producing an average of 230 watts per module, (1,840 watts total) that power the classroom lights.  The Gary Job Corps Smart Meter students played a role in the solar panel project. Upon completion of the class, students will be capable of designing and constructing solar arrays.  In addition, students learn about cost efficiency, Green technology, installation and repair.  Pictured are the Smart Meter Class students, City of San Marcos Electric Dept. Representatives, San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Gary Deputy Director Nathalene Pena, PLC-2 Director Derrick McKnight, PLC-3 Director Melissa Valdez, and staff members.
