Mayor Craig Lowe visits GJCC

Gainesville Mayor, Craig Lowe, visited the Gainesville Job Corps Center for the first time, Tuesday May 17th. The Mayor had never visited the center before; so, when the invitation came from the center, Mayor Lowe immediately accepted the invite.
Center Director Sam Kolapo, the GJCC Leadership Team and the students greeted the Mayor and his entourage which consisted of his Communications Liaison and an Intern. Center Director Sam Kolapo made a comprehensive presentation covering the Job Corps program, its services, the students it serves and the economic impact of the center within Alachua County and the surrounding areas.
The Mayor expressed that he was impressed with the program offerings and said he would make sure Mr. Kolapo gets on the agenda to share the Job Corps program with County and City officials. The Mayor posed the question, “what can I do to help support the center.” HR Manager Barbara Walker asked the Mayor to commit to advocacy for the program. Ms. Walker asked the Mayor to send a letter of support to the Congressional Delegation. Mayor Lowe agreed that he would.
The meeting ended with a tour of the facility by the Student Government Association and the Pre –Law students. Reporters from WCJB-TV 20 News and the Gainesville Sun captured the Mayor’s visit and the tour.
