Friday, November 18, 2011, B.A.S.E, Black Aids Services and Education, Inc. hosted a HIV/AIDS Arts and Performing Arts Contest at the center. To participate, students had to create visual art that could be used as a design on T-shirts to educate the community about HIV/AIDS or student could use their creativity in words to educate through poetry, rap or songs. Twelve students signed up to participate in the arts contest and 4 students walked away as winners.
Student Kenneth White rapped about the dangers of unsafe sex and claimed the first place performing arts’ prize of $200. Student Calvin Washington’s poem entitled, ‘It Only Takes One Time” received 2nd place recognition at $100. Student Jeff Jeudy also received $200 for winning 1st place in visual arts and Student Robert Marryshow placed second in visual arts, winning $100.
