GJCC Makes a Difference on Thanksgiving

The Gainesville Job Corps Center helped put thanksgiving dinner on the table of dozens of Alachua County families. The center staff collected canned goods and non perishable items and donated money towards the purchase of macaroni and cheese, stuffing, green beans, candied yams, creamed corn and cranberry sauce. The center’s business partners got involved too and donated 18 turkeys to the center.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010, the center delivered 10 decorated thanksgiving food boxes and 10 turkeys to Duval Elementary School families and gave three boxes and four turkeys to former students. The remaining food and turkeys were donated to the St. Francis Homeless Shelter.

“This time of the year the staff and the students love to come together to give to the community,”  HR Manager Barbara Walker said, “We don’t have to ask staff to give or participate, they volunteer willingly because they are giving from their hearts; and the reward we get from seeing others blessed is indescribable.”
