Gainesville Job Corps students were proud to showcase their talent and skills during the second annual Career Expo held September 29, 2010. Mr. Kalopo, the Center Director welcomed approximately 150 high school students and community members to the Career Expo. As guests walked from display to display, table to table, students from each of the Career Technical Training programs demonstrated, discussed, and presented their knowledge, skills and talents.
Automotive Technology program students demonstrated how to use computerized scopes to diagnose vehicle repairs. Nursing Assistant program students discussed and demonstrated the process of blood screening for diabetes. The Medical Assisting program students demonstrated phlebotomy procedures using a mannequin arm. The Protective Services program students demonstrated several defense tactics. The new Solar Energy program, as well as Painting and Facilities Maintenance program staff and students displayed the tools of their trades. Among the many exhibits, students and staff also demonstrated the state of art driving simulation equipment. The Culinary Arts program provided guests with a wonderful array of food and drink. The Career Expo was a huge success. Many of the visitors left with a better understanding of the training available at Gainesville Job Corps Center.
