Gadsden’s Security Students: Job Shadowing The Probate Judge

Gadsden Job Corps Security I Students, Shakendria Blackmon and Justin Russell visited Probate Judge Bobby Junkins of Etowah County. Probate Judge Bobby Junkins is a great supporter of the Gadsden Job Corps and he serve on the Community Relations Council. Ms. Blackmon and Mr. Russell learned about the Probate Court System and what types of cases Probate Judge Junkins handles throughout the day. The students observed the Probate Judge as he handled a case of a recently deceased person and what family member would be over the Will of the Deceased Person. Probate Judge Junkins spoke to the security students about orders related to property of a probate estate, such as the opening of safe deposit boxes, probating a will of a decease person and etc. Judge Junkins said that the Probate Judge’s office can issue certificates of survivorship, and must regulate the court’s schedule in a way that maintains the integrity of each individual case. The Etowah County Probate Judge handles family law responsibilities, such as appointing guardians for children, approving name changes, issuing marriage licenses, adoption of children and CED Mental Health guardianship. The Security Students did not realize that a Probate Judge had that much responsibility in helping people with problems throughout Etowah County.
