Gadsden C.N.A. Student Is Thankful For Job Corps

7.15.16 Derrickus Spencer is from Birmingham, AL. He came to Gadsden Job Corps on February 24, 2015, while here he was able to obtain his Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) Certification. In addition, he completed the Hotel and Lodging trade. Derrickus completed our program on February 26, 2016. Derrickus said that Job Corps helped him to become a leader and to become a better man. He stated “my teachers kept me focused, as well as the dorm staff and my fellow students. I was not the perfect kid. This did not happen overnight, I had to work hard.” After leaving Job Corps, Derrickus was able to obtain an apartment and a car. Derrickus currently has three jobs, he works at Gadsden Regional, Hope Inc., and Gadsden Health and Rehab. He stated “I’m just a kid from Birmingham who lost everything trying to find my way. You can be successful if you try hard enough.” Derrickus wants to thank everyone at Job Corps for helping him succeed. He would especially like to thank Mrs. Jessie Jones, Ms. Ceandra James, Mrs. Teresa Cochran, Ms. Terri Shaw and the male dorm staff.
