8.24.16 Mrs. Gale Chaffin, CPP Instructor, takes our CPP students from the Gadsden Job Corps Center to visit the Gadsden Career Center in order to gain valuable information on employment and education options that will assist them with achieving their career goals. Ms. Summer Patterson, Case Manager for WIOA (Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act) at the Gadsden Career Center, works with CPP students who do not know the employment process and teach them the resources and tools necessary for obtaining employment. The Career Center strives to educate each student on the soft skills imperative to securing a long-term career. This is especially important to Job Corps students, as the majority have little employment history and have never been given this important fundamental knowledge. Our CPP students visit the Career Center and begin by completing registration in the JobLink System. This system can be accessed from any computer and allows students to search and apply for open positions and build a resume using a step-by-step process that is visible to potential employers. The JobLink system is invaluable, as it also provides information on available social services, occupational information, and links to evaluate the skills and interests of the student. After registration is completed, each CPP student completes the My Next Move Assessment. This is a questionnaire that looks at the students’ interests and aptitudes and creates a graph outlining what career category (i.e., Realistic, Creative, and Enterprising) is best suited for that CPP student based on their responses. Once the student completes, the results are discussed in detail and they are taught how this information is beneficial in considering their future careers. We appreciate the Gadsden Career Center and Ms. Patterson for helping our CPP Students.
