Twenty two year old Danielle Baldwin, from the Flint Genesee Job Corps, won first place at the NJCA Oratory Competition, held in Washington D.C. Danille, who was once homeless and taking care of her younger brother, shared her lifes story to various government officials, Department of Labor, and NJCA staff implying that her story was not just a presentaton but her testimony of overcoming hurt, disappointment, and confusion. With the help of the Job Corps both her and her brother (who graduated from the Grand Rapids Center) are successful outcomes of the program. Danielle was awarded a beautiful medellin as well as $1500 towards her educational goals. She was also able to meet Lavera Leonard – President of the NJCA Association, Edna Primrose – Job Corps National Director, and Secretary of Labor – Hilda L. Solis
Staff and students are very proud of Danielle, who is a single parent in the Office Administration Career Technical trade. Danielle’s plan for the future is to return to college, majoring in pychology, as well as writing her own book to assist other young people with the same challenges.
