A “tree planting ceremony” was held at the Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center with students, along with the Center Director and Green Committee, planting 10 Autumn Classic trees which were shipped in by Arbor Day. The Carpentry and Painting Technical trade classes constructed a Earth Day sign with recycled paint. Students gave the small “baby” trees names, which they will be checking on time to time for their growth and well being. The trees, which were planted near other mature, degenerating trees will be uprooted after growth for rooting purposes – some will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity for newly developed homes. The centers “electric” car was used as well to transport tools needed for the event. Other activities included creating and displaying Earth Day posters and “rock” assignements in classrooms. Students also assisted at the University of Michigan-Flint Earth Day events as well as clean up of the outside park of Knights of Columbus.
