My Success Story is on former student Sharon McLaurin Oliver. Sharon graduated from West Jones High School in Laurel, MS in 1987. In September of 1988 she enrolled into the Batesville Job Corps Center, which has been renamed to the Finch-Henry Job Corps Center. Sharon completed the program with a certificate in Word Processing. While enrolled in the program, Sharon was a member of the girls’ basketball team which only loss came in the finals in Simpsonville, KY to the Atterbury Job Corps Center. Although the team did not win the championship, it was a fantastic and exciting experience. In 1989, the center put on a Miss BJCC pageant in which Sharon was blessed to be crowned Miss BJCC.
After completing the program, Sharon remained in the Batesville area and later became employed with the South Panola School District which she has been employed with for 19 years. Sharon is employed as a bus driver and cafeteria staff. Sharon has also recently received her Manager’s License in Food Service, and is also a Minister of the Word of God. Sharon is the mother of one daughter, one son and she has 3 handsome grandsons.
Sharon would like to thank the staff of the Finch-Henry Job Corps Center (BJCC) for making her stay in the program one of her greatest milestones in life. When looking back, she sees a lot of laughter, fun and good times.
