Job Corps Success Story – Juliyah Erving

My name is Juliyah Erving and I am from Kosciusko, Mississippi. My Job Corps story begins after my high school graduation in 2014. I didn’t have much of a plan or an idea of what to do so, for a few years I bounced around from job to job until one day, a friend of mine said she was going to Job Corps. I had never considered it but immediately though, “We should go together”. I ended up coming alone and when I got to Finch-Henry Job Corps Center I was already going through a lot. I dealt with most of it internally and it wasn’t until I met Mrs. Booker and Ms. Kim that I started to open up. They were part of the best thing that ever happened to me while I was there. I also met Ms. Shelia Turner, she was an amazing person that really helped me and still keep in contact with her to this very day. Finch-Henry taught me a lot and my mentors made sure I that accomplished what I came for and more.

I became a certified CNA in April of 2019 and, within a year I started doing traveling CAN work. I just love it. I have been to Texas, where I was only 10 mins away from the boarder of Mexico, I’ve been to Virginia twice and I also worked in California for four months and I loved it. Currently I’m in Bend, Oregon and it’s pretty nice here. Traveling CNA is by far the best thing I decided to do and it was made possible by Job Corps. I highly recommend anyone thinking about it to attend Job Corps, it was a life changing experience.
