Job Corps Success Story

Exeter was pleased to welcome aboard new Outreach  & Admissions Counselor Mr. Derek A. LeDoux.  Here is Derek’s story in his own words…… “As an Exeter native and a Job Corps graduate, the atmosphere here is not unfamiliar to me.  About 8 years ago, I separated from this program after attaining both my high school diploma and a handful of trade certifications.  When I walked across the stage in the auditorium, (I still have my graduation photo, come see it in my office if you’d like!),  it was my first opportunity to celebrate my own success and I didn’t stop there.  After Job Corps, I attended the Community College of Rhode Island to get my feet wet in higher education.  From there, I transferred to the University of New Haven and majored in Forensic Psychology, graduating with the class of 2012, Magna Cum Laude.  As a youth, I faced a number of hardships and I couldn’t see myself graduating from high school, let alone college.  I felt trapped as I entered the workforce without an education and I couldn’t be more grateful to this program and its supportive staff for affording me the opportunity to reorient myself in the direction of success.  Even today, some of the same faculty that worked with me as a student, are working with me again, but as an employee, to show me the ropes of the admissions process.  All in all, Job Corps has been a great experience, and words can’t quite convey how excited I am to help extend the opportunity this program offers to new students.”
