Students and staff of the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center have been active in both Excelsior Springs and Kansas City with numerous events surrounding the time of Earth Day and Global Youth Service Day.
On April 21st, students from both the main campus and the Alternate Training Location in Kansas City participated in the KC Earth Walk which is sponsored by Bridging The Gap- an organization concerned with environmental education.
Beginning on April 12th and then again on April 27th, students assisted in conducting seatbelt and cell phone safety checks at Excelsior Springs High School. These surveys checked to make sure all occupants had on seatbelts when they left school for the day as well as to make sure the driver was not using their cell phone to make a call or to text.
On April 28th students from both the main center and the ATL participated in events; ATL students participated in the AIDS Walk Kansas City. In addition to money collected by the students, four students and one staff member participated in the walk.
Students in Excelsior Springs participated in a local festival called Gatsby Days. Navy JROTC students provided the color guard for the opening of the parade and then also provided several games for children to play during a street carnival later on. Both communities appreciate the participation of the students and they conducted themselves with pride!
