On Wednesday November 3rd Navy JROTC students were invited to the United States Department of Labor in Washington, DC to participate in a forum on veteran’s issues. The students got the chance to meet Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis in addition to touring Washington following the forum. The Navy JROTC program at Excelsior Springs remains the only JROTC program in all of Job Corps. On Saturday November 5th Navy JROTC students participated the Shawnee Mission North Athletic Challenge. This is but one of several drill and physical challenge meets that our students compete in each year. Ten students competed in pushups, pull ups, sit ups, a one mile run, a 100 yard relay, as well as combat fitness.

On Friday November 11th Navy JROTC students participated in Veteran’s Day by greeting veterans coming for the free lunch offered at the local Applebee’s. Four cadets greeted veterans for the afternoon and were also included in an article in the local paper about all of the day’s activities.
