On Friday October 28th female cadets from the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center participated in a Women Veterans Conference hosted by the Department of Labor Women’s Bureau. With the theme of “Women Veterans as Agents of Change for the Future”, the conference was held at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. After providing the color guard for the opening of the conference, the students were able to listen to the remarks of retired Brigadier General Wilma Vaught. General Vaught is one of the most highly decorated women in the military of all times and she was instrumental in the establishment of the Women Veterans Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The conference also featured free legal services, health screenings, a job fair, assistance with writing resumes, and an explanation of veteran benefits.
