The Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center spent a few days recently righting a wrong via community service In Excelsior Springs, MO. A former Excelsior Springs elementary school, now privately owned, was broken into and vandalized. Upon learning about the situation, Center Director Willie Smith visited with the property owners asking if the students in the painting trade at ESJCC could use the vandalized walls for a hands on, true to life training opportunity. The owners were happy to allow the students to clean up the graffiti left behind by the vandals. ESJCC painting instructor, Renee Adams selected a half dozen students and went to work using their skills removing spray paint from slick surfaces like mirrors, covering up the spray paint of the cement block walls, sanding and refinishing wooden doors also covered in graffiti. Instructor Adams stated she likes to volunteer and feels it is important for the students to get the opportunity to give back to the community whenever possible.
