Financial Literacy comes to Career Transition Class

Financial Literacy comes to Career Transition Class

The BCL, Ms. Julia R. Gibson facilitated a workshop for the CTR class at Edison Job Corps campus, students are learning about making smart financial decisions.  Building your career is one of the surest ways to increase income and make money. When planning for the future, one of the most critical financial decisions is determining your career path.  Affinity Federal Credit Union is providing real life scenarios for the Job Corps trainees to learn from such as budgeting and finance techniques. One of the most significant parts of the workshop is understanding how to prepare a budget and coming up with a step by step plan.

Effective money management starts with a goal and a step-by-step plan for saving and spending. Financial goals should be realistic, be specific, have a timeframe, and imply an action to be taken.  The lessons encourage students to take the time and effort to develop their own personal financial goals and budget. Students are also learning how to plan for independent living strategies.
