Since 2005, the Deckhand Training Program of the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Academy in Morganfield, KY has been quietly and successfully placing its graduates in the barge and towing industry. Graduates leave fully prepared. They come equipped not only with a Transportation Workers Industry Identification Credential (TWIC) and first aid, CPR and AED certifications, but background checks as well. “When they come aboard with all of those things, that alone saves our company tons of money,” says C.E. “Butch” Branson, president and chief executive officer of Ohio Valley Marine Service. – The Waterways Journal, October 31, 2011
