Sturgis, Ky. – Habitat for Humanity and students from Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center have teamed up to build a three bedroom house for a family in Sturgis. Instructor Gene Fisher, who teaches carpentry, said the team starts at 7 a.m. and works about eight hours each day.
The building project began July 20th and Fisher said the majority of their work is nearly completed.
“The students get more out of two weeks working on a house than three months confined to a classroom and are happy to be put to work,” Fisher said. Fisher also stated how proud he was of the work his students had done.
The work is something 22 year old Ashley Clemmons of Charlotte, NC doesn’t mind because of the purpose it is serving.
“I realize as I’m working that I am helping a family by being here,” stated Clemmons. “I can actually say I built a house for someone.”
