Detroit Job Corps Trainee wins “Best Health Mentor”

Lynette Davis, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) trainee at the Detroit Job Corps Center(DJCC) won the “Best Health Mentor” competition for Region 5. Lynette was nominated by Ms. Virgie Booth, Health and Wellness Manager for the DJCC.  The competition was sponsored by Humanists, the Health Education Component of the Department of Labor.

The criterion to submit someone as ‘Best Health Mentor” was:

  •  An individual who both model healthy behaviors and help others to adopt healthy lifestyles.
  • Submission of a 100 words essay on why your feel the person you nominated is a “Best Health Mentor”.

Ms. Davis has overcome all odds, from being homeless; living on the streets to becoming the first certified nurse’s aide to complete a dialysis technician program at DJCC. Lynette never misses an opportunity to share her wealth of health information she has gained through her CNA and dialysis technician program. It is a joy to see a trainee who is always first to encourage and motivate other trainees in ways that will promote self growth and development.

Ms. Lynette Davis , a person who embraced an educational opportunity has been rewarded for her efforts. We, at the DJCC are very proud of her accomplishments and we wish her much success with her current full time employment and as she continues with her future goals to attend a School of Nursing.
