On October 21,2011 the Detroit Job Corps Center volunteered at Focus Hope food bank helping with the food distribution to low income families. Focus: Hope provides nutritional –balanced food to mothers, children and seniors through their Commodity Supplemental Food program.
Focus: HOPE works with other sources to provide many health and information services to food program participants. Last year, free flu shots were given to more than 300 participants, eye exams were administered to 165 people, and DTE Energy set up an office in the West side Food Center to help people receive assistance before their heat was shut off. Last year, more than 2 million pounds of fresh food was distributed through their food centers.
