Students at Denison Job Corps showed they were eager to learn more about government and the duties of an elected government official when they questioned U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley on Monday August 23.
Grassley toured the Denison Job Corps campus before addressing an assembly of students and staff. Grassley is spending the August Congressional recess touring the state.
Senator Grassley was asked why he supported the Job Corps program. He answered that he supports education in general because we are a global environment. What goes on in China and India affects us. We have to have a well-educated populace. He added that education is a tool that enables people to improve their lives and market their abilities. When people have marketable skills, they are more productive citizens who help improve the nation. Also, Job Corps offers an education that fills a need not addressed by other options in education.
When asked to state a few words of wisdom to help students become successful after the Job Corps training is completed, the Senator responded, “Always tell the truth, so you don’t have to remember what you told someone. Always keep a little money in reserve. Get as much education as you can.”
