Recently, an opportunity was presented to the Painting students from Denison Job Corps Center for extensive hands-on experience towards their Career and Technical Training. Todd Langlois, the painting instructor for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades at the Denison Center, was approached by the members of the Masonic Temple in Carroll and Tim Howard (the Sherwin Williams Rep.) about painting the interior of the Temple. Plans were put in place for the Denison Job Corps students to do the job. Todd and 6 of his students spent 11 days working at the Temple. The surface was prepared. With the donation of paint from Sherman Williams, the group gave the walls and ceilings a fresh look. Students received hands on training in scaffolds, brush and roll, and spray applications. Students had to plan the amount of materials to be used as well as a strategy for timely execution of the task. Upon completion of this project, students saved the Masons over $7500.00 in labor alone. The project was finished in a timely manner. Todd is also grateful to K&D Painting, a local contractor for assisting to mask the antique woodwork with the students.
