Denison Job Corps Helps the Library

The Norelius Community Library contacted the Carpentry trade of the Denison Job Corps in need of shelving. The library provided the pattern. They asked if the students could build additional units. Lead instructor Don Whitney put his students to work. The project allowed the students to put into action their carpentry skills such as measuring, using a square, laying out a radius and operating power tools. Using the miter saw, jig saw, router and pneumatic finish nailer the assignment reinforced the skill sets for the students in a practical application. A stain was applied before the shelving was delivered to the library. Mr. Whitney was able to use the over run of supplies from previous projects. He said, “I am very pleased that excess training materials can be used for community benefit.” The 20 shelves were delivered, by the students who made them, to the Library on December 10.
