On August 6, 2010, Denison Job Corps, located in west central Iowa, celebrated its 30th anniversary. Students and staff were dressed in red shirts sharing the theme of “30 years of Lighting the Way”. Many former staff and students returned to help Job Corps celebrate.
Denison Job Corps welcomed new students to the recently acquired campus of Midwestern College for the first time in February of 1980. Since it’s opening, over 14,000 students have received their start at the campus located in rural Iowa. August 6 was a day of celebration and remembering. Former students were invited to return to witness how the program has evolved through the years. Visitors were asked to sign a “Wall of Fame’ board to record their time with us. The beautiful campus displayed the pride that the student have for their home.
Guests were invited to tour the campus, enjoy the snacks, and have lunch in the cafeteria. Local businesses and community neighbors stopped by to say hello share the special day. A short program was enjoyed by all as they listened to 3 former students share how Job Corps had showed them the way. Job Corps guests included former center directors and many former staff. Following the program, a band, Clockwork, played for the guests and students. A catered meal completed our festivities. What a day to remember.
