The Recreation Department of the Denison Job Corps organized a slow pitch fund raiser with entry fees going to purchase items to be sent to the deployed soldiers of the Denison and Carroll National Guard units that are serving in Afghanistan.　The community was generous by either participating or making a cash donation.　 Many snacks, books, and hygiene items were sent as a result of partnering with community members.　 Donations of cash for shipping came from local banks, the Donna Reed Theater, and the American Veteran organization allowing these items to be shipped along with big ‘thank you for your service’ notes.
