On April 1, 2016, the Delaware Valley Visionary Committee, Recreation Department and the CSIO Department sponsored an off center camping trip to camp Koinonia. A total of 22 students attended the three day camping trip participating in tent setup, proper fire pit construction and learning how to build rustic tables out of knots and twine. Students were also taught how to start fires without the use of matches and lighters. On Saturday our Center Director, Social Development Director and Visionary Committee staff leader Mr. Tom White took the students fishing. The students learned how to fish, and did very well catching over 24 fish which they took back ate for dinner. Also on Saturday, students completed a “low initiatives” course designed of teamwork, trust, problem solving and support. The weather report showed us that snow was coming so they packed up the tents and moved the students to a cabin for the evening. Students sat by the camp fire talking about the 3 M’s Career Success Standards, and the ZT policies in Job Corps. On Sunday morning the staff and students woke up to over 3 inches of snow on the ground. After enjoying a large breakfast, they cleaned up the area and prepared for return to center. The trip was the talk of the center and the students are looking forward to the next camping trip in May 2016.
