Returning to the court, the Delaware Valley Eagles hosted the Oneonta Bulldogs in a matinee tip-off on October 18. With the “excitement and energy” building even before the start of the game, the Eagles had a number of new faces on the team. The game started with Oneonta jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead as the Eagles tried to settle in and regain their focus. Once that occurred, the guys began to apply their “signature high pressure defense” and create numerous Bulldog turnovers which resulted in relatively easy transition scores. With 34 ticks on the clock remaining, the Eagles created another turnover and held the ball for one final shot. As time expired, Jonell “Scotty” Scotland found himself on the wing beyond the arc and drained a 3 pointer to give DV a 7 point advantage at halftime. The remaining 20 minutes of the contest saw the Eagles 2 big men begin to exert their height advantage by controlling the boards and creating some “over the top high low” plays resulting a easy scores. Carl Gumbs and Marquell Mason combined for 15 rebounds to give the team an advantage. High scorers for the Eagles’ balanced scoring were Carl Gumbs and Scotty Scotland as the team coasted to a 15 point victory. Congrats to the teams for representing themselves, the team and the center in a real positive manner!
