Catskill Regional Medical Center’s (CRMC) Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon, NY announced today that it has created a walking trail on its scenic grounds for public use. CRMC partnered with the Delaware Valley Job Corps to create the trail, and offers members of the community a free and easy-access wooded trail to walk.
Grover M. Hermann Hospital Administrator, Marc Mendelsohn came up with the idea while looking at Sullivan County Health Statistics. Mr. Mendelsohn stated, “I noticed a high rate of cardio-vascular disease in Sullivan County, and thought that creating a trail on our scenic grounds would encourage healthy living and promote cardio-vascular fitness within our community.”
Mr. Mendelsohn reached out to the Delaware Valley Job Corps to help assist with the project. Instructor, Mike Mahoney took a group of his students, and over the course of a week, cleared the land and laid down mulch. Mr. Mahoney commented, “It was a great learning experience for the students, and they had a lot of fun completing the project. Before, it was just woods, and we made it into something nice and functional for the community.”
