A total of 40 Delaware Valley Job Corps (DVJCC) students and staff and local community members braved the brisk and cool weather to compete in the DVJCC first annual Fall Foliage 5K held on October 24, 2010. The race took place along River Road on the Delware River and was sponsored by the DVJCC SGA. April Ackerman of Cochecton, NY took first place with a time of 20 minutes and 10.5 seconds. Second-place was awarded to Peter DeVoe of Glen Spey, NY with a finishing time of 20 minutes and 11.8 seconds.
The race also held special meaning for staff and students of DVJCC as this was to be Center Director, James Turner’s last public event with his staff members and students. He will be relocating to Nevada following his upcoming wedding. The staff and students cheered Mr. Turner on when the race dedication was announced. It was truly a special day and DVJCC looks forward to making this an annual event.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon who has always been a strong community advocate of DVJCC and its students.
