Last week, the Culinary Arts class had the challenge and privilege to prepare food for a fundraiser headed by Miss Amy Lohmann. After much planning, prepping and taste testing, the day finally arrived. During the week of April 11, the Culinary Trade prepared 350 dinner rolls, 700 sugar cookies and 1400 oz. of 3 bean salad for the Lava Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chicken BBQ that was held on April 17. With many students in trade, Liz Possemato, Trade Instructor, had everyone working. It was a task that took 2 days and 2 dozen students participating. We had dough makers, roll formers, cookie cutters, vegetable choppers, bakers, baggers, and let’s not forget the clean-up crew. We even had an ambitious explorer on crutches sitting at a table counting bags. Miss Lohmann was extremely pleased at the finished products. She said that everything was delicious and this was confirmed by the 350 customers, who gobbled up all of the chicken BBQ treats.
