Congratulations to Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center graduate Anthony Rodriguez-Martes! Rodriguez-Martes recently graduated from Whitney M. Young’s Building Construction Technology program. Rodriguez-Martes pursued training at Job Corps because he did not feel like college was a good fit for him, and he wanted to learn new skills that would advance him from a job to a career.

While Rodriguez-Martes was learning hard skills in his trade that would make him more employable, he was also growing personally and professionally. “Attending Whitney M. Young helped me learn how to communicate and use my words more effectively, helping me further myself as a person.” Rodriguez-Martes says the the instructors, counselors, and friends he made at Whitney M. Young are to thank for his growth and acquisition of skills.

Since graduating from Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center, Rodriguez-Martes has transferred to Advanced Training at Little Rock Job Corps Center in Arkansas where he is pursuing the Advanced Plumbing trade. Rodriguez-Martes says that he is enjoying expanding upon the skills he learned in the Building Construction Technology program. Once he graduates from Advanced Training, he plans to pursue Union membership with the Local 502 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and eventually open his own plumbing business.
