When Collbran Lion’s Club called Susan Nichols, Principal, Grand Mesa High School, Collbran Job Corps, to ask if Job Corps students could assist at the local elementary school, her response was, “Yes!”

The club purchases personalized books for the kindergarten class each year. Twenty-five kindergarten students wanted to “read” aloud. Nine Collbran Job Corps students traveled to Plateau Valley School and introduced themselves to the kindergarten students. Soon Job Corps students found quiet areas in the class room, tucked into kindergarten-sized chairs or on the floor, to listen to their new small friends read, or to help the kindergartner’s read their personalized books.

The event was such a hit Collbran Job Corps has been asked to participate in the towns of Collbran and De Beque next year.
