Sometimes the communities surrounding a Job Corps Center know there is an impact on community service but may not be totally aware of how deep that impact really is. Recently, Collbran Job Corps Center participated in the annual National Make a Difference Day. Approximately 275 staff and students participated for approximately 6 hours in area clean up and the drive to Vega Lake.
To put this in perspective, it is important to make clear that the Nationally determined dollar figure used to calculate the worth of volunteer time is now $20.85. The students and staff contributed approximately 1,650 man hours on Make a Difference Day alone. This calculates to $34,402.50 of clean-up value to the surrounding community if they had to pay for project. That is only one day of student and staff volunteer activity from only one of 124 campuses. That is impressive.
