Fire Crew has been a great opportunity for my friend and me. We go out on crews and do field work. Field work involves wood chipping and cleaning up twiggy areas. The nonth of September, we travelled to Dillon, Colorado to work on the beetle kill. For all four weeks of work we chipped 300,000 pounds of wood. Some of us even had a chance to work on a prescribed fire burn. We actually got to see fire first hand, and how a wind change can cause the fire to go in other directions. Relative humidity plays a big role in prescribed burns, also. When the humidity is high it’s really hard to start a fire and get things to burn, but by waiting a little later in the day, the humidity will drop and things will go up in smoke. It is facinating to learn abot fires and the many aspects of fire crew.
