Collbran Job Corps students acted as a mock jury 02/27/16 and 02/28/16. Mrs. Rachel Schowalter, social studies teacher, took eight students to Glenwood Springs, Colorado to act as a mock jury for mock trials. This is a yearly event hosted by lawyer and judges. High school students act as lawyers representing cases before a mock jury. The lawyers and judges educate all students on presenting cases and acting as a jury.
Students must be attentive and weigh all the facts of each trial. Their findings are present during the mock trial. This is a great learning exercise in areas of law and due process. The students were impressed with all they learned. Working as a group to come to a consensus under the direction of lawyers and judges, was a distinct experience.
