National Groundhog Shadow Day
Students from Cleveland Job Corps Center participated in National Groundhog Shadow Day on February 3, 2020. The day provided an opportunity for students to observe and share the daily responsibilities of an employee working in their industry-specific career interest. Twenty students job shadowed at Mercy Health, AHF Pharmacy, Colonial Heights Development, Contractors Plus LLC, Stephanie Tubbs Jones Health Center, Warrensville Elementary School, and McGregor Nursing Home. Bricklaying students arrived at Brownsville Elementary School to shadow bricklayers and get firsthand construction site experience.
Students in Building Construction Technology spent the day at Contractors Plus rehabbing a house, putting up drywall, and doing demolition. Additionally, they also learned new technology techniques in building drywall at Colonial Heights Development. “It was a pleasure working with the students. They had the opportunity to operate new equipment,” said Vice President Sharon Gillon Simmons.
Mercy Health allowed two Medical Office Support students the opportunity to learn how the medical billing office operates.
Two Pharmacy Technician students were able to incorporate the knowledge they received in their class at AHF Pharmacy. “It was our pleasure to show the students what we do here and how the decisions they make today can affect more than just themselves. I hope it was helpful for them to observe us and participate in the medication scavenger hunt and prescription interpretation exercise,” stated Tarra Bryant, R.Ph. Pharmacy Manager. “Thank you for the opportunity to help guide them on their journey.”
At the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Center, Clinical Medical Assistant students transported clients around the facility and learning about the day-to-day operation in a medical facility.
Lastly, McGregor Nursing Home welcomed Nursing Assistant students. Students aided residents in their daily activities and with recreation. The students will continue volunteering at the facility throughout February.
Thank you to the facilities and employees that took the time to mentor, engage and inspire our students.
