Frivolously spending her time sleeping and lying around on the couch and watching television, 19-year-old China Crider decided to make a change in her life. In the winter of 2017, China decided to enroll in Job Corps as she wanted to start the upcoming 2018 new year on a positive note. “I wanted to finish what I had started and get my high school diploma,” said China. “I also wanted to learn a trade that would put me in a better place.”

China entered Cleveland Job Corps on January 3, 2018. Equipped with a renewed energy and determination, she hit the ground running. China earned her high school diploma from Penn Foster and obtained certifications in ServSafe, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Nursing Assistant, and Home Health Aide.    
China explained that she had to step her game up a notch to get through the program, “I had to focus, practice good time management and be disciplined.” China wants to thank her mentors: Melonie Harrell (Safety Officer), Camale Allen (Career Transition Readiness Instructor), Kimberly Jordan (Counselor), and Jameka Bloom (State Tested Nursing Assistant Instructor) for all the help and tough love they each extended to her.

China graduated from Cleveland Job Corps on August 17, 2018. She is working at Golden Touch Home Health Aide Agency as a Home Health Aide.  China aspires to become a registered Nurse and plans to enroll in college soon.
