Cleveland Job Corps Student Propelling Towards Her Goals

“It was hard trying to get into the trades without being trained because you have to know someone and there are few resources within the community,” explained Alexandra Perry. She knew what she wanted and that was to become a carpenter. However, without the training she needed, Alexandra struggled to find opportunities. She decided to enroll in Job Corps.

On December 17, 2018, a very determined Alexandra arrived at the Cleveland Job Corps Center. She earned credentials in Carpentry, Green Awareness, Scaffolding, Ramset, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Alexandra stated that she appreciates Carpentry Instructor Daniel Volpe, Leisure-time Learning Coordinator Lenae Fann, and Residential Counselor Jasmen Woodsen for the encouragement they provided.

Although, Alexandra initially had reservations about campus restrictions, she explained that she is happy that she had the resiliency to stay and accomplish her goals. “I have received firsthand insights into the carpentry industry and experienced community living dorm life because of Job Corps,” said Alexandra.

“Have goals for what you want to do with your life and figure out how the trades will help propel you toward your goals,” advises Alexandra Perry. On April 20, 2020, twenty-two-year-old Alexandra completed the Carpentry program at the Cleveland Job Corps Center and gained successful employment at 1st Choice Roofing Company as an Estimator.
