The Cleveland Job Corps Center’s Machining trade can be your next step into a career as a machinist! The program focuses on the core skills every machinist is expected to know and takes a minimum of 750 hours to complete.
Machining Instructor Greg Witter has over 20 years’ experience in the shop and on the machines, writing Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programs and processes for improvement, as well as experience as an engineer and designer. He also has 5 years’ experience teaching machine tool on the production shop floor, plus in the college classroom, shop, and lab. Instructor Witter makes the difficult easy by teaching application in a simple “hands-on” and practical approach.
Machining instruction and training includes: Safety and Environmental Practices, Basic and Related Technology, Industry Vocabulary, Semi & Precision Measurement, Mathematical Calculation (Shop Math), Basic Print Reading, Job Planning and Quality Control, Benchwork, Process Adjustment, and Improvement, General (Machine) Maintenance, Power Saws, Drill Press, Grinders & Grinding, Manual Lathes (Turning), Manual Mills (Milling), Numerical Control (NC) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, and Advanced Machining and Repair.
The machining course is about six to nine months long and includes practical hands-on labs working with actual machines. Certifications include: National Institute for Metal Working Skills (NIMS) certification(s). This course provides the necessary understanding and knowledge to begin a successful career in Machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming, setup and operation, and advanced manufacturing.
