BUILDING FUTURES Today Cleveland Job Corps
Fiesta of Hope Luncheon
On June 27, 2014, Cleveland Job Corps Deputy Director,
Mike Salazar, Business Community Liaison,
Mike Taylor and Work Based Learning Coordinator,
LuCiana Clark attended the Esperanza organization’s
annual Fiesta of Hope Luncheon at the Renaissance
Hotel. The luncheon was held to recognize
the 2014 scholarship recipients. Alejandra
Ceja, who is the Executive Director of the White
House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, was the keynote speaker
and expounded on the educational challenges Hispanics are facing, and offered
methods to breaking down those barriers. More than 100 students were honored for
their academic achievements and provided with
scholarships ranging from $1000 to $10,000. Latinos
are considered to be America’s largest and fastest-
growing minority group and the Esperanza organization
is definitely doing their part to help inspire
and edify the Hispanic community (they have
given out more than 1,200 scholarships over the past 30-years).
It was truly amazing to be part of
this event, making college education
not only a dream for the students
but a reality.
